"Afternoon Session," the debut LP by Grey Blue Ashes, is a fusion of British pop punk in the vein of Buzzcocks and the distinctive post-punk sounds of the mid-Seventies, all seasoned with a beloved touch of rock 'n' roll.
The 7 tracks flow smoothly. Right from the opening track "High Voltage," the quality is very high, and the influence of British punk by Buzzcocks is clearly recognizable, especially in the vocals. "Enemy" and the concluding track "Falling in Love" have a different sound, reminiscent of bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and Talking Heads. Just listen to "Falling in Love" and tell me if the psychedelic vibes created by excellent keyboard arrangements don't take you back to the post-punk sounds of the '70s and '80s.
"Devices," with its iconic songwriting, razor-sharp guitars, and a solid 4/4 drumbeat, sticks in your head from the very first listen.
